The Board of Directors

Eric Burd, Chairman of the Board

Eric Burd
Eric Burd is the founding Chairman of The Council for Family-Integrated Churches as well as Teaching Elder with Vancouver Household of Faith Community Church in Vancouver, WA. In addition to being a sought after conference speaker, Eric also serves as President and Executive Director of Household of Faith Fellowship of Churches, a nationwide association of autonomous Family-Integrated Churches.

Graduating with Honors from Eastern Washington University in 1974, throughout college Eric was active in intercollegiate athletics and semi-professional baseball. He graduated first in his class and was commissioned into the US Army. His military service included a tour as an Airborne-Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division, then as a helicopter pilot, tactical commander and operations officer for the 6th Air Cavalry Brigade. In the early ‘80s Eric’s leadership transitioned to the business sector where he earned distinctions as Manager or Salesperson of the Year more than six times, with three different Fortune 500 companies.

From early childhood Eric sensed a call to pastoral ministry. After a two-year stint at Bible College and going on to state university, Eric never lost sight of his pastoral calling as he continued his ministerial preparation through his career in both the military and business. Today he has over 15 years of pastoral ministry in both denominational and non-denominational settings.

Residing near Vancouver, WA, Eric and his wife, Jerry, have been married for 36 years. They have 5 children and 7 grandchildren and have been homeschooling since 1983.  With over 30 years of leadership in the military, business and Christian communities, Eric desires to be used of the Lord to engage Christians at every station in the spiritual battles at hand – provoking them to be deliberate about getting the next generation out of the gate and off to a fast start in doing the work of the Kingdom.

J. Mark Fox, Vice-Chairman

Mark Fox
J. Mark Fox is the founding Vice-Chairman of The Council for Family-Integrated Churches. Mark has also been pastor of Antioch Community Church in Elon, NC for 25 years, and has taught in the School of Communications at Elon University for 20 years. His weekly column for the Times-News (Burlington, NC) has won 4 Amy Awards, a national honor given for "thought-provoking, skillful presentation of biblical truth, reinforced with scripture in a mainstream, non-religious publication."

Mark has written six books, including Family-Integrated Church (2006), Planting a Family-Integrated Church (2008), and his latest book, A Faithful Man: Equipped to Lead as Prophet, Priest, Protector and Provider (2012). He holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and a M.Div. from Luther Rice Seminary.

Mark’s desire to see the church develop a vision for the world began with a trip to Haiti in 1983, and has led him to take teams to Haiti, Colombia, and several African countries. His whole family ministered together in Colombia in 2011, and Mark has taken five of his children to Africa so far to help him with pastors’ conferences, preach in the open air and minister to some of “the least of these.”

Antioch Community Church has been family-integrated since 1993, and hosts bi-annual Family-Integrated Church conferences.

Mark and Cindy will celebrate 30 years of marriage in June, and have seven children and two grandchildren. The family enjoys acting, running, and having fun together. Mark’s passions also include preaching, writing, speaking, and missions, and he completed his first marathon in February of 2012.

Jeff Klick, Secretary

Jeff Klick
Dr. Jeff Klick is the founding Sceretary of The Council for Family-Integrated Churches. He began his ministry in the late 1970s. From those early days, he has always had a heart for fathers, marriages, and families. Hope Family Fellowship was birthed in December 1993 from a passion to assist families not only to survive in our world, but to change it for God's glory. Dr. Klick married his high school sweetheart, Leslie, in May of 1975. They have three adult children - Andrea, Sarah, and David and all three of the children were home educated. Jeff and Leslie have been blessed with seven granddaughters and two grandsons so far, all of which are being taught at home. Dr. Klick loves to learn and has a professional designation, CFP, earned a Master's degree in Pastoral Ministry, a Doctorate in Biblical Studies, and a Ph.D. in Pastoral Ministry.

Jeff previously served for 11 years as an Administrative Pastor for a large department oriented church in Kansas City. It was during this season of his life that many of the foundational views for the family-integrated church were birthed.

In addition to serving as senior pastor at Hope Family Fellowship, Dr. Klick serves as a consultant with Miller Management Systems and is a teaching Fellow with Christian Discipleship Ministries, an international ministry designed to train pastors and leaders. Dr. Klick also serves on the Board of Directors for The Council for Family-Integrated Churches.

Dr. Klick has two books published with a third due to be released in the Fall of 2012. Courage to Flee was written to assist men and women in the difficult arena of dealing with sexual temptation and moral failure, and Generational Impact; A Vision for the Family is a challenging look at what it takes for imparting faith to the next generation.

Dr. Klick loves to spend time with his family, who all attend his church. He also loves to read, play racquetball, and learn about new technology.

Jeff Akin, Treasurer

Jeff Akin
Jeff Akin serves as Treasurer for The Council for Family-Integrated Churches and has ministered as a lay leader in multiple church congregations over the years. He currently shepherds at Fellowship Church Louisville, where he engages regularly in public speaking on father-led families and the biblical modeling of Family-Integrated worship.

Jeff’s vast professional background affords him a unique, lay leader vantage point among Council members.  After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Jeff served our country as a Navy Pilot, flying over 4,000 flight hours in support of the first Gulf War.  Following his naval service, a post-graduate business degree positioned him well for the first of many
positions within American industry, most recently leading companies in several industry sectors. His visionary insights, marketing prowess and discernment, and financial accountability, contribute much to the Council’s mission and viability.

Jeff also is an accomplished athlete, competing in multiple full-distance Ironman Triathlons and marathons, all in despite being a Type 1 diabetic. He often lectures publically on the challenge of doing much with what God has afforded us individually, leading others – family and friends – by personal example, and remembering from where our strength originates. Among his greatest joys are the literally hundreds of testimony’s to lives transformed by his diabetic “thorn”.

Jeff lives on a small farm in Louisville, Kentucky, with his wife Amy Jo, sons Tyler, Samuel, and Eli, and daughters Ellen and Abby.  The Akin family is passionate about one another, living sustainably and responsibly on their family homestead, and
taking great care of all that God has entrusted to their care.
